THE HISTORY OF BOMBER JACKETS
The bomber jacket has roots going all the way back to the Second World War. It was originally used by pilots who had to fly up in the cold air. They needed a jacket that could keep them warm in the cold jets. The cold conditions up there were down to the thin air. The thin air meant the temperature was low. Pilots typically wore sheepskin jackets, which were enormously bulky. These could no longer be used once the cockpit had been made smaller. On top of that, the sheepskin jacket wasn't warm enough for pilots who had to fly in cold air. This is where the bomber jacket came into the picture. During this period, new materials made their way into the world's clothing production. These were fabrics and other materials that made it possible to make warmer clothing. Polyester and nylon were some of the materials that helped create the popular, modern bomber jacket as we know it today.
